How to care for your BIBs
Everything at Butterflies in Ballgowns is one-of-a-kind and ethically crafted from salvaged textiles. Treating them gently ensures your garments and accessories stay vibrant and wearable for years. I hand-select quality natural fibres - like soft cotton bed sheets, beautiful vintage tablecloths, and classic curtains - that have already proven they can stand the test of time. These textiles are inherently durable, but skipping harsh chemicals and high machine heat preserves their original texture and rich colours. This guide tells you the best ways to clean your pieces so they stay in perfect shape for all your future adventures.
General Garment Care (Dungarees & Overalls)
Washing: Wash inside out in cold water on a gentle cycle. This protects both the fabric and the planet.
Detergent: Use a mild, eco-friendly detergent to keep colors bright and fibers strong.
Drying: Tumble drying will wear the fabric down and reduce the life of your BIBs, so please air dry your garments on a line or flat, and out of the sun.
Wearable Hot Water Bottle Covers
Spot Clean First: If your cozy hot water bottle cover gets a small stain, spot clean the outer fabric by hand with a damp cloth and mild soap.
Washing: When it needs a full wash, pop the whole cover into the machine on a cold, gentle cycle with similar colors.
Drying: Lay the cover completely flat to air dry. Do not tumble dry.
Crochet Accessories
Hand Wash Only: Submerge in cool water with a small amount of delicate wool wash. Gently squeeze—do not twist or wring the piece.
Drying: Press excess water out with a towel, then lay flat and reshape on a dry towel.
Extra Tips for Long-Lasting Wear
Skip Harsh Chemicals: Avoid using bleach, which can weaken fabrics and damage our vibrant, multi-colored prints.
Mending: Since these garments are made to last, small wear-and-tear events are natural. Embrace "visible mending" by patching holes or adding colorful stitches to give your piece even more character.
