Tired of fast-fashion overalls & dungarees that pull in the wrong places, gap at the waist, or fall apart after a few washes? I believe that clothing should be made to fit your beautiful body—not the other way around.
At Butterflies in Ballgowns, I specialize in creating custom, made-to-measure dungarees, shorties, and dresses. Handcrafted right here in British Columbia using unique, high-quality thrifted fabrics and reclaimed textiles, every single piece is unique, planet-friendly, and tailored exactly to your measurements from XXS to 7XL.
🧵 How the Weekly Custom Slots Work
Because every item is ethically handmade by a solo designer using limited thrifted fabric remnants, I only open 3 Custom Slots every Sunday at 6:00 PM PST.

Choose Your Fabric: Inside the product listing, you can swipe through the photos to see the exact thrifted fabrics available for this week's batch. Every fabric is labeled with its maximum "Size Yield" (some lengths fit up to 7XL, while smaller remnants are limited to smaller size brackets).
Submit Your Details: When you click "Add to Cart," a quick form will pop up asking for your custom measurements.
Handcrafted & Shipped: Once your order is placed, your dream dungarees are cut, sewn, and shipped within 14 days.
📏 How to Measure for Your Perfect Fit
To ensure your custom piece sits exactly where you want it to, please grab a tape measure (or a piece of string and a flat ruler) and take these four quick measurements:
1. Chest: Wrap the tape measure around the fullest part of the chest, under the armpits. Keep the tape level and flat across the back.
2. Waist: Measure around the narrowest part of the torso (your natural waistline). For our relaxed-fit overalls, this measurement is less critical than the hip, as the bib is designed to be roomy.
3. Hip (The Most Important Step): This is the key measurement for dungarees! Measure around the widest part of your hips and bottom. For adults, we highly recommend sitting down while the tape is around your hips to ensure the fabric won’t be too tight when you're seated.
4. Total Height & Inseam (Required for All Fittings): Because everyone's torso-to-leg ratio is unique, providing both of these numbers allows us to map out the pattern perfectly so the straps and crotch depth sit comfortably.
Total Height: Your overall height from head to toe (e.g., 5'4" or 164cm).
Inseam: Measure from the very top inside of your thigh (the crotch) straight down the inside of your leg to where you want the bottom hem to sit.

What if the fabric I want doesn't fit my size tier?
Because I only source thrifted fabric, the lengths of each piece varies wildly. If you buy a custom slot and your dream fabric doesn't have enough yardage for your measurements, don't worry! We will reach out via email within 24 hours to show you beautiful, alternative prints from our secret backup stash.
Can I send you my own fabric to upcycle?
I love sentimental upcycling! If you have a cherished textile you want turned into dungarees, send us a DM on Instagram or use the contact form before Sunday so we can review the fabric yardage together.
What is your return policy on custom orders?
Because custom pieces are made-to-measure to your exact body specifications and utilize unique thrifted textiles, all custom orders are final sale. However, we pride ourselves on excellent communication - if something feels amiss with your fit, reach out and we will work together to make it right.
